What is Ayurveda?

Emerging from India 5,000 year ago, Ayurveda is the world’s oldest model of natural health care. Its emphasis is on preventative care and life enhancement and encourages the maintenance of physical, emotional, spiritual and mental health through: adjustments in lifestyle and dietary habits; as well as introducing natural spices and foods. Ayurvedic practices can be utilized in conjunction with western medicine (allopathic) practices.

Integrating Ayurvedic philosophy into one’s lifestyle is not a quick fix to resolve any particular health concern. It requires an ability to slow down in order to become aware of the particular nuances of one’s ever-shifting state of health. Through the Ayurvedic lens, we begin to notice the subtle attributes of the mind and body experience. This deepened attention allows us to perceive the cause and effect of our lifestyle choices more readily and embrace the opportunities for making small changes with less resistance. This holistic approach to wellness enables us to perceives the intricate interconnectedness of the body and mind as well as the impact of the world surrounding us.

What does an Ayurvedic Health Counselor do?

My role as an Ayurvedic Health Counselor will be to provide you with detailed and personally tailored suggestions for lifestyle and dietary changes for the purpose of enhancing your quality of life. To appreciate how I intend to accomplish this, understand that we are all born with a particular constitution (Prakriti) which is expressed as a unique balance of the 5 elements or building blocks of life. Your constitution determines your unique physical, psychological and mental characteristics. Vikriti, is your current state of relative health or imbalances. Ayurveda provides a system for observing and assessing the particular imbalances that exist in the body and mind. All suggestions will be provided in a nonjudgmental and supportive manner and will be held confidentially.

Prior to the initial consultation which can take place in person or on Zoom, I will send you an Initial Assessment Intake Form. This will entail a thorough exploration of your lifestyle, dietary habits, digestion, sleep hygiene, emotional tendencies, primary health concerns and goals, a health history and current medical care.

suggestions.

Each of the four season bring different qualities called gunas which affect our
state of health. It is very helpful to understand these qualities and adjust our diet
and lifestyle routines in order to maintain optimum health.

Hatha Yoga session includes Asanas (Postures), Pranayama (Breathing Practices)
and Savasana (Guided Relaxation) customized to your constitution.
